San Diego State University was founded in 1897 under the name ‘San Diego Normal School.’ It is home to over 34,000 students and is categorized as a research university. The university has 190 study abroad programs, 200+ student life organizations, 50+ Greek life affiliations, and is part of the Mountain West Conference for sports. SDSU is ranked ninth in the U.S. for the amount of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics and is twelfth in the national for bachelor’s degrees awarded to overall minorities. San Diego itself offers the San Diego Trolley, which students use as an affordable way to get from SDSU to various locations nearby.

About 46% of students receive financial aid at San Diego State University. SDSU scholarship applications open up in August and last until October, February or May, depending on the deadline. Each college offers different scholarship opportunities based on available majors. Various memorial scholarships are obtainable and have different application requirements. The SDSU Alumni Association Scholarships is one of the many scholarships available to the whole student body.

Enrolled students have free access to many career services, including career fairs, career assessments, career workshops and departmental internships. The Aztec Career Connection allows learners to access job listings online in addition to signing up for information sessions and practice interviews. Career counselors assist students with career placement tests and review resumes and cover letters. Alumni have access to these same services for three months after graduation. Afterwards, these services may be purchased either individually or in packaged deals.
