Guidance and Advising

At NCE, our students are very important and we make every student a priority. The staff at NCE makes every effort to support and maintain close communication with each student. At NCE we have an open door policy; students enjoy full access to faculty and administrative staff for both academic and vocational advising. Students who require in-depth personal counseling will be referred to the appropriate services. If there is a special need for any student, our staff will make every effort to help or seek the counseling needed for each individual student, at any time! Our students are very important to the NCE Family.

Tutoring

Our goal at NCE is for every student to be a graduate. If you need help, please contact the Director of Education. The Director of Education schedules tutoring in various courses, as it is needed by students. At NCE our staff will do everything possible to see every student succeed in their chosen course of study.

Student Activities

NCE understands our students are busy people. Many students commute to school; others juggle work schedules and family obligations. But we also like to celebrate our NCE family! Extracurricular activities include Student Appreciation and Faculty Appreciation Days and Holiday Celebrations.

Student Employment

At NCE we know our students work hard, which is why we offer job-placement assistance for students who are working their way through school  The Placement department at NCE assists students with obtaining part-time or full-time employment in order to meet living expenses during their school training. Please note, however, that these jobs are usually not in the field for which the student is being trained, but in service, merchandising, general labor and custodial work.

Services for Students with Disabilities

NCE welcomes prospective students with disabilities that are seeking special accommodations. NCE will make every effort to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities; we understand, and want to help whenever it is possible. Please contact our Campus Director to find out more about the programs designed to help our special needs students and what we can do to provide you with a great education and the tremendous training needed to succeed!

Policies of transferring credits from other institutions:

Prospective students who have earned credit at other institutions must furnish an official transcript to the Registrar’s Office to apply for transferring credits. Transferring credits must be approved prior to being scheduled for the course in order to receive credit. Obtaining transcripts from other institutions, and associated fees, are the responsibility of the student.

Mission

The entire staff of Dorsey Schools strives to prepare men and women for the best possible career opportunities in various fields. We are committed to providing quality career education and positive reinforcement to enable the individual development of self-esteem, self-reliance, discipline, and confidence in all graduates coupled with an obligation to the communities in which they live and work.

Objectives

In support of our mission, the following measurable objectives have been developed:

• Continually update the curriculum to provide programs that meet the needs of the community.
• Offer students the opportunity to develop a foundation of skills and abilities that satisfy the performance requirements of employers.
• Develop each student’s self-confidence and interpersonal skills.
• Provide a pleasant and professional atmosphere conducive to learning that provides experience in operating equipment and software typical of that currently being used in the workplace.
• Provide a dedicated, competent, and caring faculty and staff.
• Offer community involvement activities designed to stimulate student involvement in the community.
• Assist students to secure training-related employment.

Cornerstone University has undergraduate and graduate programs, two seminaries (Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and Asia Baptist Theological Seminary based in Chiang Mai, Thailand), and a radio division called Cornerstone University Radio (WCSG, Mission Network News). It is a liberal arts university.

In the 1990s and early 2000s Cornerstone University expanded and transformed, changing its name, becoming a university, increasing enrollment, adding facilities and improving the campus, introducing an adult program including the MBA and a leadership development experience, adding an Honors Program and “Civitas” Core Curriculum, changing its mascot, colors, and logo, and winning a men’s national basketball championship^[3] in 1999, 2011 and 2015.

Students are required to abide by a “Lifestyle Statement” intended to reflect trinitarianism. The university offers 60 academic programs in the arts, sciences, humanities, Bible, teacher education, computers and business and journalism.

Cornerstone University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools,^[4] the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada^[5] and the National Association of Schools of Music.^[6] In sports, it is a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Cornerstone’s social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
