Pasadena City College of Beauty
Pasadena City College (commonly known by the abbreviation PCC) is a community college located on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California, USA. PCC is the third largest community college campus in the United States, and is widely regarded as one of the best community colleges in the state. The school attracts students from throughout southern California, enrolling a large percentage of students from outside of the bounds of the Pasadena Area Community College District.
Pasadena City College is a very large two-year university in the midsized city of Pasadena, CA. The school is on the semester calendar system and is a single campus school. There are 38,100 undergraduate students at Pasadena City College. Students attend mostly part-time. The school has its own library and participates in Title IV federal financial aid programs.
The program is a 1600 hour program that prepares students to take a State Board test to become a licensed cosmetologist. Instructors give them demonstrations and written tests on the subjects being taught and the students demonstrate what they have learned on their doll heads.
Freshmen students receive instruction separate from upper classmates (approximately 17 students every eight weeks).
Cosmetology has a current passing rate of 90% at State Board and most of the graduates have jobs the minute they pass their board. There are waiting lists each eight weeks that classes are offered.
The curriculum prepares students to work as cosmetologists in beauty salons. The program includes all phases of Cosmetology. Upon successful completion of this full-time day program (1,600 hours), a student is eligible to take the Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology Examination for licensure as a cosmetologist. Tuition, books, uniforms, and cosmetology supplies totaling approximately $1,050 will be needed in the first week of the program.
The curriculum will prepare licensed cosmetologists who want to become cosmetology instructors. Upon successful completion of this program, (600 hours), a student will be eligible to take the California State Board Instructors Examination for licensure as an instructor. Students must hold a valid State of California Cosmetology license to enroll in this program. Continuous enrollment until completion of the program is required. A Certificate of Achievement is awarded upon completion of all required courses with a grade of C or better.
